CenterStage Richmond: The Music of Nat King Cole, Chinese Acrobats and An Evening with Joan Baez
It’s a busy week for CenterStage Richmond, and a lucky one for lovers of music and art. Here is a rundown of the events you can’t miss if you’re visiting Richmond, VA between November 14 and November 20!
November 15: The National Acrobat’s of the People’s Republic of China will take the stage and amaze the audience with their artistry, strength and flexibility this Tuesday. The Carpenter Theater will host their aerial and ground acrobatics to the stunned pleasure of onlookers who may have only heard the legends of the Chinese performers – a reputation which rightfully precedes them.
Acrobatics as a performance art in China are recognized to date back at least to the Eastern Han Dynasty (25 AD to 220 AD) and were originally thought to be entertainment for royalty. Today, the touring company travels worldwide preserving and presenting their ancient performance art.
November 17 – 20: Vocal Artist, Lumiri Tubo, will present “A Tribute to Nat King Cole” in Rhythm Hall. Let Tubo take you back as she sings classics like “Unforgettable”, “Mona Lisa”, and “Ramblin’ Rose”.
November 18: It’s hard to believe she’s been performing for more than 50 years – An Evening with Joan Baez at the Carpenter Theater will remind fans how the 70-year-old singer’s music and passion are timeless and her appeal infinite. Listen to her traditional ballads and her constantly developing body of work, and fall in love with her unique style all over again.
These are just a handful of the events that await you this week, thanks to CenterStage Richmond. If you plan to stay at one of the Historic Richmond Inns for a few days, you might even catch all three!
